We played “Balkan”

09.07. 2005. 6th day of the second Videolleters Tour

Just five minutes past midnight and Neda whispered to me that it’s her birthday so we went to the Irish pub next to the canal. Beautiful person as she is, she ordered a beer for me and then we drink couple of them celebrating the special day when long ago she came to this strange but beautiful place that we like to call planet Earth. At this moment we were in Brčko.

Dubravka come in dancing and Boro ordered another round. Beers where quite small bottles so he named them-nosedropsbottles. Band that was playing was funky. The atmosphere in the bar was good. We had a couple of drinks outside and then we went to sleep. The next day I woke up and went to breakfast. I got the job to help beautiful Mara with the flags, which I did off course.
Just before that I went to the Mosque opening which was quite an impressive scene. Lots off women sitting on the ground and praying while some guy was singing some interesting Arabic scales on the speakers. I noticed lots off people without legs or other parts of bodies. Lots of houses destroyed by bullets and grenades. Latter I went to practice with the band and a very nice local musician Ervin who tells me about Brčko. Lots of intresting but also very hard stories.
With Ervin we played “Balkan”. That song was written by a famous poet and rock star from Zagreb, Johny Štulić. He lives in Utrecht and didn't come back since the war. In the evening we had a party in a hotel Posavina.
Just before we started to play I found out that in this hotel there was lots off killing during the war. Everybody here has a story to tell.
And now about this band Hotel. I mean it’s horrible. They are all bad musicians but I have to play with somebody! Its not just that songs we play are bad. Arijan sings them bad, same as Coyote, and I don't even want to write about Chris and his improvisations.
Stefijn has this Mexican bass that is out of tune all the time and Jan is a bad sound technician. I miss Casper, not his drumming which was off course bad. Its great that Claudio is now with us but his drumming is also bad. I mean the organization of this whole thing is really bad but for me this is still a beautiful adventure and I like to be on this trip. Thank you for inviting me.
Thank you ladies and gents, that would be all…I played bad too…
