The Russian Georgian conflict

It is clear that Georgian president does not consider any more Russia the closest friend, now he looks west. This fact does not irritate Moscow so, as the statements of Georgian president do. May be we witness joint actions performed to reach some political goals, but because of this conflict (as in any similar conflict) suffer simple people. I allow myself to call the conflict between Russia and Georgia ethnic one. For you to understand reasons of such consideration I want to explain you the situation in Russia.
Georgia is one of the republics of the former USSR. After the disintegration of the USSR it found itself in miserable economical situation. It is not a secret that people from former Soviet republics arrived and are arriving in Russia, especially in Moscow and Moscow region to find work and be well paid providing good living for their families in homeland. There are a lot of Caucasian people in Moscow now. They are not only from Georgia, but from Azerbaijan, Armenia. Many of them are rather reach, have their own big or small business in Moscow. When arrived, they were working in those spheres that Russians from Moscow considered low for their self-respect. That is why very soon all markets in the city were under control of Caucasian emigrants. So, they made a lot of money and began to open restaurants, casino, trade centers… As I am working in the sphere of restaurant business, I would like to mention that Caucasian people are owners of more than 70 per cent of all of the Moscow restaurants. This situation began to irritate Russians, all the more that in opinion of Russians the emigrants behave themselves as masters in Russia. They don’t allow Russians to sell at the markets. Moldavian, Ukrainian and Tajik women work for them there, bring here their families with numerous children and relatives, do not respect Russian culture and people. Also the hostility began to increase because of the war in Chechnya. Many nationalistic groups of young men appeared in such situation. Russians became indignant that officials did nothing against foreigners and allowed them to feel like masters. People have really negative attitude towards Caucasian people, because there are a lot of them in Moscow. When I arrived in Moscow 4,5 years ago, I had normal attitude but I began to dislike them, I have to admit that public opinion influenced on me , but I saw the behavior of Caucasians and agree with Russians, especially their attitude towards Russian women is unpleasant for me. In their homeland they would never do such actions that they do in this country. There are a lot of them here, sometimes I have a feeling that I am somewhere to the Caucasus, not in Russia. I know and understand that those people left their homeland because of poor and non-perspective life there; they came here to earn money and live with their families in better economic situation. The fact that they have success in business in this country that gave them a chance to do that in spite of the corruption in police and law that limits their activities shows that they have national feature for earning money and doing business Also I know I am working with wonderful Caucasians who are very polite and I am doing it with pleasure.
Of course, there is negative experience in communication with them, but often Russians do the same things: a man of any nationality may act bad as well as good; that is human nature.
Well, I have described the atmosphere in Russia, in fact, in Moscow, and now about the very conflict. Since Russian government decided not to suffer any more Georgia, Russian mass-media are throwing dirt at Georgians and show “bad Georgian people”. There is the real propaganda on TV. Every day in the news one can see how the police arrests “criminal ethnic gangs consists of Georgians”, closes Georgian restaurants and casinos and Federal migration service deports the staff because of their illegal employment. I know that district police officers visit almost every flat in their area to find out where live Georgians. Railway, post and air service are not working and Georgians cannot return home if they wish. It seems that Russian government wishes to throw out friendly Russian Georgian past during several weeks. Many Russians sigh with relief and say: “At least these “black” will be less here!” (Russians call Caucasians “black”). In fact, Russian government by means of the mass-media develops political conflict in the ethnic one. But the most horrible thing is that at first Russian officials let go many Caucasians to Russia, then they closed eyes to corruption and their business, did not pay attention to the indignation of Russian people, and only after beginning of the political conflict Russian officials were trying to “change” the situation, but, in fact, they deepened it. They oust and besmirch simple Georgians; this is not a disaster for the President of Georgia, but for Georgians who understand that their little homeland lives off the money that emigrants earn in Russia. I want you to understand: Russian officials and police were paid by Caucasians and let them to earn money, they did not pay attention to irritated Russian people, but now they decided “to reduce to order in their country” when this order became expedient for them. Try to understand Russian people and their attitude to Caucasians, they knew all described above and disliked Caucasians more and more, and now mass-media cause divisions and dislike. I hate to watch news on TV because I know that Russian and Georgian politicians play with edged tools and their games are awful.
