I will call it Pridnestrovje, because in my family we call this territory so.
I was born in Kishinev (Chisinau), but my Grandparents are actually from Pridnestrovje, from a little town called Dubossary. They moved to the capital of Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1956. When I was a child, I spent summer in Dubossary staying at my grandmother’s sisters. Fresh and clear air, well-decked water, fruit and vegetables of personal garden, the river, all of these are always good for a child. But after 1992 when I was 11, we did not any more visited relatives on the left bank. In 1992 was an armed conflict in Pridnestrovje between the right bank of the river, i.e. Moldavian nationalistic government that wanted to reunite with Romania, and the left bank which population did not agree to be a part of Romania because the greater part of its population are Russians and Ukrainians.
I visited Dubossary again in 3 or 4 years after the war had finished, the war was not long, but it was a tragedy, every war is a tragedy. I would not say that people got evil and angry towards other from the right bank. Bad attitude one can hardly find of course there are some people who have nationalistic ideas or was in the war, sometimes they make one to feel uncomfortable and a little bit hurt, but it is unreasonable to offend.
Now, the relations between two governments – of Moldova and of Pridnestrovje- are rather bad.
The Ukraine banned to transit the goods by railway across the Ukranian-Moldavian that were not registered in Chisinau. This prohibition means the economical blockade of Pridnestrovje, they cannot export their production in Russia and Ukraine without Moldavian officials allowance now. In response to that actions Pridnestrovian government prohibited Moldavian railway transport to go through its territory.
Last month there was a referendum in Pridnestrovje. There was only one question put to the referendum was: “Are you agree that Pridnestrovje becomes a part of the Russian Federation?” The majority of the population yeasaid.
Pridnestrovian government are waiting that Kosovo will become independent and they use this chance to get independence also.
This summer I was in Dubossary again, unfortunately just for a day.
