fans

Some years ago I was in Sarajevo. I think it was 1998 or so.There was a football championship, I forgot where. Serbia was playing against Norway. I was watching the game in a bar with waiters who at that time told me they didn't like Serbs because of the war.
I asked them about the game and who they liked to win.
The answered with: "what a stupid question!" So I thought they wanted Norway to win. WRONG!! They wanted Serbia to win. "The Serbs are ours" they said. "They speak our language, they play good football."

I am wondering about the coming Worldchampionship. Do the Serbs want Croatia to win against Brazil? Do the Croatians want the Serbs to beat The Netherlands? And what about the Slovenians, Macedonians, Bosnians(eh..which ones?) and so on.
Please let me know.
Eric

Football and nationality

I'm an Australian who lived in London for a long time and have encountered many people from many different countries. Many had football in common and it was this that transcended most other differences once the topic came up in conversation. In terms of those from the former Jugoslavija, it was no different. My national team has just qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1974 (!!!!!!) and about 8 members of our squad have Croatian heritage including our captain, Marko Viduka. If that wasn't enough, 3 members of the Croatian squad (who are in our group with Brazil and Japan) were born an raised in Australia. My good friend Drazen is from Sarajevo and he will be supporting Croatia. Another friend, Toni, is Swedish and we both take a great interest in one of Sweden's main strikers, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Basically, during any World Cup, my nationality is essentially "fan". I'd love to see Australia do well (and beat England!) but also am very interested to see how most other teams fare. Die Oranje and how they perform in this tournament is particularly intiguing. Can Van Basten finally get them playing as a team? Do they have the strikers to score against the excellent Serbian back 4? On saying that, it's probably true to say that most of us like to see Germany get beaten ;-)

dutch coaches

Yeah, it's true that when dutch people are involved in the WorldChampionship, I am automatically a fan. There are 4 Dutch football coaches active on the tournament this year. So I have to see a lot this year. Count me out in June, I will be in front of the TV.
For the rest: I like good football. I don't like the Italian style for example. So if there is no Dutch influence anymoe I will be fan of the best football.
