The New York Human Rights Watch Festival is proud to award successful Dutch filmmakers couple, Katarina Rejger and Eric van den Broek our 2005 Nestor Almendros Prize for courage in filmmaking the VIDEOLETTERS series. NESTOR ALMENDROS PRIZENestor Almendros was a founding member of the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival in 1988 and was actively involved in the selection of films. Often while working at various locations, he took time to call the Festival to mention a little-known documentary or promote a work in progress. Believing that political filmmaking was in eclipse, Nestor devoted himself to involving young people, becoming a mentor to many an apprentice. Thus, it is in the Festival's loving memory of Nestor and our desire to carry on his vision that we proudly bestow this award to emerging film makers for their outstanding commitment to human rights. VIDEOLETTERS episodes will have their screenings at The New York Human Rights Watch Festival from 19th to 23rd June 2005. |
